Military Honor & Whimsical Charm: A Quinta Castilho Wedding Story
Documentary Wedding Photography & Video
The morning began with a palpable sense of pride. This was my first time photographing a groom in full military dress, and the attention to detail was incredible. Between the perfectly tailored suit, the polished medals, and the badges of honor, every shot felt grounded in a deep sense of tradition.

Photographer’s Insight: When shooting military attire, I focus on the textures of the uniform and the reflective surfaces of the medals. It adds a layer of “prestige” to the storytelling that contrasts beautifully with the soft lace of the bridal gown.
Why Choose Quinta Castilho?
This venue is a favorite for couples who want a “self-contained” experience that doesn’t sacrifice variety.
The On-Site Church: The charming church on the grounds allows for a sacred religious ceremony without the logistical stress of moving guests between locations.
The Lush Grounds: The greenery and ivy-covered walls provide a timeless, organic backdrop for portraits.
Unique Traditions: Whether it’s a military arch or a “mini bug” getaway, the layout of the Quinta supports grand entrances and exits perfectly.
A Sacred Ceremony at the Quinta Church
The ceremony took place in the picturesque church located right on the Quinta Castilho grounds. There is a specific serenity that comes with a religious ceremony in such a historic, intimate setting. Seeing the couple exchange vows in front of the ornate altar, surrounded by their closest family, was a beautiful moment of tradition and meaning.

The Couple Session: Ivy Walls & Yellow Buggies
After the ceremony, we leaned into the more playful side of the day. The couple had a yellow mini-buggy decorated for the occasion, which made for some of the most vibrant and fun “getaway” shots I’ve taken all year.
We used the stunning ivy-covered architecture for the formal portraits, letting the natural textures of the Quinta highlight the sharp lines of the military uniform and the flow of the bride’s dress.

Red Velvet and Steel: Cutting the Cake
The reception hall was set for a feast, but the real highlight was the cake-cutting ceremony. In keeping with military tradition, the couple used a large sword to cut into their delicious red velvet cake. It was a dramatic, high-energy moment that signaled the start of the night’s celebrations.
Technical Insight: For the sword-cutting moment, I use a slightly wider lens to capture the full length of the blade and the couple’s reactions simultaneously. It’s a “once-in-a-lifetime” shot that requires perfect timing.

FAQ: Planning Your Quinta Castilho Wedding
Yes. One of the biggest advantages of Quinta Castilho is the charming on-site church. This allows you to have a traditional religious ceremony without requiring your guests to travel between different locations, making the day much more relaxed.
The venue is famous for its lush greenery and ivy-covered stone architecture. I highly recommend the area around the church for classic portraits and the open garden paths for more fun, candid moments (like using a unique getaway car!).
Quinta Castilho is very versatile. The church offers an intimate feeling for the ceremony, while the reception spaces are grand enough to host a larger guest list comfortably, ensuring a great flow for the entire day.
If you’re planning a Quinta do Castilho Wedding in Santarém, or elsewhere in Portugal and want photography and videography that feels calm, honest, and deeply human, you’re in the right place.
