Estrada da Peninha

Romantic Engagement Session at Estrada da Peninha, Sintra

Documentary Wedding Photography & Videography

Sintra is a place of myths, but if you want to escape the crowded palace gates, you head to the clouds. An engagement session at Estrada da Peninha is for the couples who find beauty in the wild. Located at one of the highest points of the Sintra-Cascais Natural Park, Peninha offers a raw, untamed landscape that shifts from mystical forests to dramatic Atlantic vistas in a single turn of the road.

As a Sintra engagement photographer, I’m always looking for that “pure natural vibe.” This isn’t about stiff poses; it’s about how you look at each other when the wind picks up and the only sound is the rustle of the ancient pines.

Chasing Light in the Sintra Forest

We started our journey tucked away from the coastal breeze, where the forest is at its thickest. There’s a specific kind of light here—filtered through layers of moss and pine needles—that creates a soft, ethereal glow. It’s the perfect place to start a session because the trees provide a sense of privacy, allowing you to relax and simply be together.

The Documentary Approach: I love focusing on the textures of the forest as much as the couple. It adds a “sense of place” to the gallery. When we look back at these, I want you to remember the smell of the damp earth and the quiet of the morning.

The Epic Coastline: Where the Mountains Meet the Sea

Once we emerged from the treeline, the scale of the landscape changed. Estrada da Peninha is famous for its panoramic views over the Cabo da Roca coastline. Here, the vibe shifted from “intimate forest” to “epic adventure.”

The wind at Peninha is part of the experience. Instead of fighting it, we used it. It adds movement to a dress and a touch of wildness to the hair, making every frame feel alive and unscripted.

Cinematic light: Portraits on the Open Road

From iconic drone shots, to taking your dog along to make some extra memories. Even that precious of maternity shoots, it all can be done here. Notice the shift in energy in Bringing your dog along (the ultimate “natural vibe” addition!) turned the romantic sunset into a fun, family adventure. These are the moments that feel the most “you.” This road is the perfect place, light moves fast and we can have sun drenching the trees or louds making the light so diffuse that it looks like a mega studio!

There is a specific “Sintra blue” that happens just after sunset, especially when the mountain mist starts to roll in across the road.

We ended the day in total darkness, lit only by the car’s headlights and the lingering mountain mist. This “Night Session” style is one of my favorite ways to close a story. It’s moody, it’s edgy, and it captures that feeling of being the only two people left in the world.
